Meatballs for Every Taste

During summer and Christmas holidays when schedules are busy, meatballs come to our rescue for weeknight dinners as well as weekend parties.  Sometimes we’re industrious and make meatballs from scratch, but we’ve also found ways to dress up plain store-bought meatballs.  We like to vary the sauce we serve them with.

If you make meatballs from scratch, use the ground meat or combination you prefer: beef, pork, veal, lamb, chicken, turkey or even tempeh.  Try adding a spice or herb that pairs with the sauce you’re using.  If baking store-bought meatballs, half-way through cooking, sprinkle with seasoning and turn before finishing in the oven.  That little extra flavour will add pizzaz.

For a weeknight meal, we serve meatballs and sauce alongside rice or pasta and seasonal veggies or salad.  Meatballs are also great as an appetizer or buffet dish at parties.  Serve from a crock-pot, chafing dish, or on a platter with toothpicks and extra sauce for dipping.
