Caramelized Apples

These make a great topper for pancakes, waffles, crepes, ice cream, or short cakes.

Makes 6 servings

  • 3 Tbsp butter
  • 5 crisp apples, peeled and diced into ½” cubes
  • 1 Tbsp + 2 Tbsp granulated sugar, divided
  • ½ tsp The Epicentre Everything Nice Baking Spice or Chai Spice Baking Blend
  • ¼ tsp lemon zest
  • ⅓ cup apple cider or apple juice

Melt the butter in a sauté pan over medium heat. Add the apples and sprinkle with 1 tablespoon sugar. Sauté the apples, stirring frequently, until they begin to turn tender, about 6 - 8 minutes.

Add the remaining sugar, spice, and lemon zest. Stir gently and continue to sauté until the sugar begins to caramelize, about 2 mins. 

Remove the apples with a slotted spoon. Turn the heat up to high and add the apple juice to the pan, stirring to loosen any brown bits in the pan. Allow to thicken to your desired consistency. When done, pour over apples. Serve warm or chill completely and keep in fridge up to a day.
